In response to recent changes to laws regarding sexual harassment in New York State, the Comp Alliance is offering our members the opportunity to attend train-the-trainer seminars to assist you in meeting the new legislative requirements.  Harassment Image

The train-the-trainer seminars are being offered at 11 different locations around the state during the months of March, April, and May 2019. pdf CLICK HERE (667 KB)  for the seminar schedules, and further seminar information. Speakers will include prominent attorneys who are well versed in the legislation and who have handled hundreds of harassment and discrimination lawsuits.

The training sessions are intended for compliance officers, human resource staff, municipal or school district attorneys, and/or those individuals in your organization who are responsible for developing your sexual harassment policies and providing the mandated training to your staff.

The new state legislation requires a policy to have been developed and implemented by October 9, 2018.  Staff training on this policy must be completed by October 9, 2019.  Our train-the-trainer seminars will provide details on the minimum standards for your sexual harassment policy and will assist you in fulfilling the training requirements mandated by the recent legislation.

The attorney speakers will explain applicable anti-harassment laws, discuss prohibited conduct, include complaint procedures that should be implemented in your municipality or district, provide scenarios on possible outcomes of harassment complaints, and answer your specific questions on policy development and training.

As the new sexual harassment legislation requires that the training be specific to your municipal/ district policies, include member-specific remedies available to victims of sexual harassment, include information on your employees’ rights of redress and all available forums for adjudicating harassment complaints, and include a discussion of your policy-specific responsibilities for your supervisors, we will no longer be covering this topic during our risk control training of the state mandated topics.

Therefore, we encourage our members to take advantage of this excellent opportunity to receive advice and guidance on your sexual harassment policy development and staff training. Supportive references including a sample sexual harassment policy and training requirements are available on the Comp Alliance Member website.  Our risk control staff is also available to you to provide general guidance on your policy and training program development.
